In September and October 2021, Nick Hunt, a former Senior Civil Servant in the Ministry of Defence responsible for the safety and effectiveness of ammunition used by the Armed Forces and co-author of the Perseus Group report on U.K. medicines regulator the MHRA, sought data from the MHRA regarding its monitoring of adverse events related to Covid vaccine ‘Yellow Card' reports.
The chosen timeframe was significant as it coincided with the vaccination of younger age groups. However, the FOI request was denied on the grounds of time constraints. Despite the refusal, the MHRA disclosed some information, revealing that during the specified period, it received over 22,000 suspected adverse drug reaction (ADR) reports through the Yellow Card scheme linked to COVID-19 vaccines.
Of these reports, 118 indicated a fatal outcome, and more than 17,500 reports were classified as serious by the reporter using the medical dictionary. The staggering statistics prompted skepticism from the author, who has been questioning the benefits and risks of Covid vaccines. The MHRA's data suggests that in those two months, one in 186 Yellow Cards reported a death, with 80% of them documenting a serious adverse event.
Contrary to the assumption that a large number of vaccinations might account for these figures, the reality is that only 1.86 million vaccinations occurred during that period. Breaking it down, this translates to one death reported for every 15,762 vaccinations and one serious adverse event reported for every 106 vaccinations.
Hunt challenges the common argument that a Yellow Card report does not imply causation. They highlight responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, pointing out that of 121 Yellow Cards for the Moderna vaccine with fatal outcomes, only 65 were followed up by the MHRA, and 42 of those inquiries went unanswered. Additionally, another FOI response (23/400) revealed that the MHRA does not maintain records on causation assessments or the processes involved, raising doubts about the thoroughness of its investigations.
