In early 2020, the government implemented lockdowns and emphasized vaccines as the only solution to the pandemic. However, as vaccine-related casualties increase, a Canadian law firm has launched a class action lawsuit against the authorities for their misleading claims. These novel COVID-19 vaccines were granted emergency use authorization in December 2020 and have resulted in almost 500 deaths and nearly 60,000 adverse events in Canada.
One case involves injured Albertan Carrie Sakamoto, for whom lawyers Jeffrey Rath and Eva Chipiuk have filed a class action lawsuit against the federal and provincial governments. They accuse the government of unlawful and deceptive practices in relation to the warning, marketing, promotion, and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Rath and Chipiuk point out the lack of disclosure of vaccine contracts by the government and are determined to have these contracts disclosed in the name of public interest. They argue that it is relevant for the public to know that vaccine manufacturers did not warrant these products for safety. The lawyers also criticize Canada’s regulatory review process during the interim order, highlighting the lack of objective testing to determine if the benefits outweighed the risks or harms.
The shifting narratives surrounding the vaccines are also a concern. Initially, the focus was on preventing infection or spread, but when the shots did not live up to their claims, the narrative shifted to preventing hospitalization or death. Rath and Chipiuk emphasize that the psychological damage caused by fear, coercion, and misinformation will be part of their claim.
The lawyers believe that the government's vaccine injury and adverse event numbers are likely to be underestimated. They argue that doctors who try to file vaccine injury reports often face rejection, and the system is designed to protect the government from claims and public health officials from being held accountable.
Rath urges citizens to get involved by writing to their elected officials and emphasizes the importance of compensating those affected by misleading claims. While legal action cannot reverse the suffering caused by vaccine injuries, it is crucial for the justice system to hold responsible parties accountable and prevent similar injustices in the future.
