Germany has announced that it will donate 100,000 doses of Mpox vaccine to Africa in an effort to control the outbreak and provide assistance to affected countries.
The vaccines will be taken from Germany's military stockpile and will provide immediate help to the region. The government will also offer flexible financial support to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the GAVI vaccination alliance, in order to combat the spread of M|pox and support their partners in Africa.
Germany currently holds 117,000 doses of the JYNNEOS vaccine, which they acquired in 2022. A portion of these vaccines will be reserved to protect officials traveling internationally, and the government will consider ordering more vaccines in the future.
The WHO has declared Mpox a global public health emergency.
