Drea de Matteo, the Emmy-winning actress known for her role in The Sopranos, recently explained her decision to join OnlyFans in late August. She cited a decline in acting opportunities, which she attributes to her stance against workplace COVID vaccine mandates.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, de Matteo expressed her surprise at the shifts that have occurred in the industry over the last three years. She described feeling forced to navigate a new career path during a time she expected to be more relaxed, all because of the perception that she's gone against the grain.
De Matteo hinted at the labels she's been given for openly opposing COVID vaccine mandates, especially through her social media presence. She acknowledged her past deviation from the rules, stating, “I guess you could say I was a bad girl because I did not follow the rules a couple of years ago.” She emphasized her desire to avoid being subject to mandates or disruptions in work again, leading her to explore alternative income sources, including OnlyFans.
Since the pandemic began, de Matteo's acting roles have been limited to a few smaller films and a reprisal of her character Wendy from Sons of Anarchy in the final season of the spinoff Mayans MC.
She disclosed that her agent severed ties with her, and she faced the possibility of losing her home due to the dearth of acting opportunities. De Matteo also shared that contrary to assumptions, she hasn't earned substantial amounts from her roles and has often prioritized time with her children over certain job offers, given her husband Shooter Jennings' commitments on the road.
